“The usefulness of preparation is directly proportional to its thoroughness. The value of brute strength, however, is never depreciated. The value of specificity is in its acuteness, the value of repetition is in its obtuseness. Avoiding a thrust of a blade is simple, avoiding a thousand thrusts from a thousand blades is impossible. This is the strength the sorcerer holds over the wizard, and this is the strength the immortal holds over the mortal. We shall triumph, Laura, for we are unrestrained.”
~Wraith King Yurikamilish
The dragon-king Saul fled before me today. Saul, who once lauded his power over me, who forced me into service for fear for my life, who sent me on errands like a page, fled like a field mouse caught before a holocaust. I will never let myself be driven by fear again.
If Laura is back that is either good… or very bad. She was the one of the greatest of friends. If she has fallen, she is sure to be the one of the greatest of enemies. I have stared down dragons, negotiated with demon princes, and lectured gods. Yet if you looked into my eyes now… you would see fear, and it would be fear well justified.
